I will tell you now, but it really depends on what you are wanting and needing it for, but my suggestion is HP Touchsmart TM2T, and get it with all the highest end components. Even with those, it will cost maybe around $ 1200 or so, but you can find some really big online coupons to add to the price, and also HP’s own discount, and that will knock it down considerably. I have two of these TM2T’s. I loved my first base mdel one so much that later in the year, I got a higher end 2nd one. Believe me, you will not go wrong with this tablet laptop!! My 2nd one with all the highest end components and after all the coupons only cost me around $ 840. Believe me, you won’t be disappointed if you go TM2T!

What are the best laptops available right now?

Question by : What are the best laptops available right now?
I am about to go to college and I am searching for a good laptop. There are so many options out there and it is hard to narrow down the best ones. So, what are the best laptops out there? Price is not really an issue, but beyond $ 1,600 might be too much. Oh, and I am not interested in a Mac :) . Thanks!

Hello,

Everybody will have their favorite.
Maintenance and usage will varied for each ownership.
Choose the one you like, that has the features that you want such as where the usb, hdmi and other user ports are located.
What might suite me, may not be the best for you.

The biggest factor in price is the GPU capability.
If you are not a big gamer, get one that does have a top end GPU since it isn’t a priority.
If you are a gamer, then you better get one with the best GPU that you can afford.

Usually better with more memory/ram, unless you can install your own. Thats easier than change’n a tire.
Out side of that all spec’s will vary from AMD/Intel, amount of RAM and hard drive size.

In the end it is your laptop, not mine or anyone else’s.
So hold your purchase until you need it, since they release new models over time.

PopTech 2009 attendees, day 2 – 31
best laptop deals

Note: this photo was published in a Mar 24, 2011 Nice Best Laptop Deals photos blog, with the same caption and detailed notes that I had written on this Flickr page. It was also published in an Aug 22, 2011 iTechNews blog, also with the same caption and detailed notes that I had written on this Flickr page.

Note: with rare exceptions, I don’t know the names of any of the individuals photographed in this set. If you know of them, please feel free to add a "tag" on the Flickr page; or if you know anyone who attended Pop!Tech this year, please tell them where they can find the Flickr set, so they can see whether they’re included among all the photos…

*********************************************************

For approximately the sixth time since 2001, I attended the annual Pop!Tech conference in Camden, Maine; it’s always held in October, and this year, it took place on Oct 22-24. People often ask me what Pop!Tech is all about, and the simple answer is that it deals with the interaction between technology and society — most often in the form of lectures and presentations about the innovative ways that people around the world are using today’s technology to make a positive impact on a wide range of social problems. But rather than depending on my summary of what it’s all about, I recommend that you visit the Pop!Tech web site for more information.

Unlike previous years, I photographed almost every Powerpoint slide presented by each of the speakers throughout the conference. Combined with the photos that I took of conference attendees, that resulted in some 600 images on the first day — which I whittled down to 450 on this Flickr set, but that’s an overwhelming collection for anyone to look at.

For the second and third day of the conference, I decided to separate the photos of attendees from the straightforward photos of speakers and their Powerpoint slides. This set contains about three dozen images of attendees, and it will give you a good sense of the kind of people who invest their time and money to trek all the way to Camden, Maine to sit on uncomfortable seats for three days indulging in a sensory overload of materials from dozens of impassioned speakers. The attendees are from all over the U.S., and from several other countries too; they include both young and old; men and women; students and professors; academics and practitioners.

Aside from the energy, enthusiasm, and commitment to social change (with or without technology), the other thing that is obviously shared among all of these attendees is the gadgetry they use to stay in touch with the world. You’ll see a predominance of Mac laptops in these photos; and you’ll also see a lot of iPhones and other "smart phones." Keep in mind that people were not chatting on their phones during these presentations; instead, they were using their smart-phones to email, Twitter, chat, and browse the Web.

Conference attendees from the third day of the conference will appear in a separate Flickr set, as soon as I can get them organized; and the speaker/presentation slides from the second and third day of the conference will also appear in separate Flickr sets.

A couple of technical notes: I used a Nikon D700 for all of these photos, mostly with a 70-300mm zoom lens. I sat in the balcony section of the Camden Opera House, where the conference took place, so I was primarily photographing other people in the balcony section. An equally large number of attendees were seated on the main floor of the building, but I didn’t see much point in photographing the tops of their heads. Because I could increase the ISO setting on the camera all the way up to 6400, I was able to get reasonably good images without a flash. The lights were turned on while I was photographing, but it was fairly dim in some areas; I did my best to compensate with an appropriate "white balance" setting on the camera.

Best laptops?

Question by Kelly B: Best laptops?
I need your opinion on the best laptops out there. I have been researching them for the last 2 months in hopes of buying one soon. We want at least a 17″ monitor, at least 1 GB of RAM, and 80 to 100GB of hard drive space. We don’t care anything about playing games on the computer or watching DVD on it or videoing anything (as of yet). We mostly want this for pictures, I do have an I-POD so I have downloaded music to my PC, and surfing the web, power point presentations…we would love Office XP Pro or Windows Media Center or perhaps even Vista.
Brands we are looking at:
Toshiba
Lenovo
Sony Vaiou (sp?)
Gateway
We have looked at MAC but kind of pricey.
Any ideas?
Have had bad experience in the past with Dell, HP, and Compaq.
Anyone know anytning about Acer or Averatec?

Best answer:

Answer by afox1998
I have a Sony VAIO and a Toshiba laptops and never had any problems with them. If I had to definately pick one, go with the Sony VAIO!
I would hold off on getting Vista – my experience with getting new operating systems fresh on the market has been a bit if’y.
See if you can get the laptop with XP and a Vista upgrade option. When Microsoft releases Vista SP1 to fix some of the bugs, then upgrade. Microsoft tends to come out with a product that needs to be modified with updates with several updates after it is first released. Usually, by Service Pack 1, they have the major bugs worked out of the operating system.
Good Luck!
